Greek Gods

                                              Hades

Hades, the God of the Underworld and wealth, is extremely powerful. He is very greedy and is mainly concerned with increasing his subjects. Once someone enters his domain, they can usually never leave. He is the god of wealth because gold is found underground, and also because he is greedy.

Hades is the son of the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. After the Olympians battled with the Titans and won, he and his three brothers Zeus, Posiden, and Hades decided to split the world into three parts; the sky and heavens,  the sea, and the Underworld. They drew lots to see who would get what; Zeus got the heavens (and therefore ruler of all the gods), Posiden got the sea, and Hades got the underworld. It suited him fine, he didn't interact with his brothers and the other Olympians much, so this way he could keep to himself.

Hades wife is Persephone, but he only gets to see her for 4 months of the year. When she goes down to him, her mother Demeter, makes winter come, and when she goes back to her mother she brings Spring with her. You can learn more about the story of Persephone and Hades meeting and why this occurs on the next page.

Hades has a helmet that the Cyclopes gave to him during their war with the Titans that makes the person who is wearing it invisable. He used it to beat the Titans, and sometimes lends it to men and other gods. He lent it to Perseus when Perseus went to kill Medusa, and he also has lent it to Athena.

The Roman name for Hades was Pluto, and Pluto is named afer Hades because it is the coldest and the darkest. Hades is a very good Greek God, and if you want to go into more depth about what really happened between him and Persephone see the next page, it is the most known story about Hades.
